We love our perch up in the cool Panama mountains, but every now and again we need a beach fix.  We have been wanting to take our pups to the ocean and particularly to Playa Hermosa. We had heard from our Spanish teacher that Hermosa is a great beach for dogs, and she was right!

Hermosa is on the way to Boca Chica on the Pacific coast of Panama, about an hour-and-45-minute drive from our home in Boquete. And a very beautiful drive it is, too, on quaint country roads and through the small hamlet of Horconcitos. Although there are other beaches that are closer to our house, this one is especially dog-friendly and safer for swimming.

Since we didn’t check the tide tables, we didn’t realize that the tides would be so extreme that day. When we got there, the tide was almost all out – way out – making it a bit of a walk to get to the water. But what a beautiful and clean beach it is, and the reflections on the wet sand were breathtaking. We pretty much had it to ourselves with our pups, Rosie and Tango, together with our good friends Cathy and Larry and their “Panamanian purebred,” Tequila.

A fun, wet and sandy time was held by all, and we had some very pooped pups on the way home. It is wonderful to be living in the highlands of Panama, where we can enjoy cooler temps, but still have close access to a beach. The dogs approve!

Whee! There are no words in our little doggie brains to describe how much fun this is!
Another beautiful shot by Larry. Love the reflections.
Any time is the right time for some dad love!

  1. Luckiest pooches in Panama, like I said. Great pix, too. I wish we’d have discovered this beach when we lived there, it looks wonderful.

    Thank you, Wendy – we’re blessed 🙂

  4. Gorgeous photos (I love the reflections) and it looks like you all had a great time! We stayed in Guarare in the Azuero Peninsula in 2014 and I remember how surprised we were at the huge beaches when the tides were out. Not much beats a walk (or romp) on a beach!
